(ago. 1560, Eliock House, Dumfries, Escocia–jul. 1582, Mantua, Mantua).

Estudioso y aventurero escocés. Se graduó en la Universidad de St. Andrews y se hizo un nombre en los círculos doctos de toda Europa. Entró al servicio del duque de Mantua, pero fue asesinado durante una reyerta callejera cuando apenas contaba 21 años. Reputado como excelente orador, polemista, lingüista y hombre de letras, se lo consideró el modelo del caballero instruido escocés, aunque probablemente sus admiradores exageraban sus cualidades. Más tarde llegó a ser conocido como "el admirable Crichton.
